The film starts with Charles Boyer visiting Paramount Studios to try to sell a story-line. While there, he observes the shooting of a scene for the movie I Wanted Wings. Veronica Lake has a brief cameo role in this movie talking on the phone during the Wings scene. Boyer goes on to tell the story of his love triangle (Olivia De Havilland and Paulette Goddard) and his scheme to get into the US via the marriage route.
